Drivers Lament

(Rallye, Rallye Right)

Words by Thomas Inman

(Vincent, or Starry Starry Night)

Rallye rallye right,
You say that I am ten clicks down,
I speed it up and then you frown,
I really wish you could make up your mind.

That turn was hard to find,
the sign was hidden out of view,
you say the cast is fourty two,
that's kind of fast for narrow roads like this.

I don't understand,
what you tried to say to me,
how one plus one can add to three-
how we missed the left at T-
I would not rallye I did not know how,
perhaps I'll rallye now.

Rallye rallye right,
Tractors cows and running deer,
I dodge them all without a fear,
and now you say we have to turn around.

You say to go real fast,
the checkpoint just came into view,
I nearly hit the checkpoint crew,
they're laughing cause we got here way to soon.

I don't understand,
what you tried to say to me,
how one plus one can add to three-
how we missed the left at T-
I would not rallye I did not know how,
perhaps I'll rallye now.

Now you've really done it.
you've really made a mess,
and there's no hope that's left in sight-
if you'd only rallye right-
you'd win a trophy or a ribbon blue.

But I could have told you bonehead,
that navigators really have to read
and do the math work too.

Rallye rallye right,
that sign in French says exit two,
I wish that we could start anew,
We must be lost it's starting to get dark.

Let us find a place to park,
get out the map and read it well,
we might be here it's hard to tell,
How could you let us get this far off course?

Now I think I know,
What you tried to say to me,
how one plus one can add to three-
how we missed the left at T-
It's been days now and I am driving still,
Perhaps I always will.
